My friend cedargrove just started up a cool new Stargate fic comm! Unscheduled Offworld Activation or sg_fic_uoa

This community was created for showcasing fiction for Stargate and Stargate Atlantis, a place where members can post their fiction for their fellow writers and readers alike where their hard work can be recognised and admired, and where the challenges can be rewarded, albeit in a small way.

Each month one or two prompts will be posted. Writers select one (or both) and write a fiction based on that prompt. They will have until the end of the month to complete the story, after which submissions for that prompt will close. Members will then be invited to choose their favourite story of the month and cast their votes. The writer with the most votes that month will receive a banner to recognise their achievement, as the whole process begins again.

Monthly winners will also be listed on the community profile.

After much debate and coaxing from The Admiral, I decided to tune in to SGU Friday night. I didn't expect much and I wasn't disappointed. Not sure that I will watch any more. None of the characters grabbed me and it felt too much like an amalgamation of many shows not original in the least. In short...:( I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil it for others. SGU is just not for me.

Actually to be more precise I know Wing Chun Kung Fu. A lot of it. Enough that Friday I received my black belt certificate. This is one of the most amazing things I have ever accomplished. Go me! This is another step in achieving a childhood dream: to master the art of Wing Chun. It took years to even find someone who could teach me this specific art and I was nearly thirty years old when I took my first lesson. Now six years three months later I'm a black belt. A lot of hard work and dedication went into this. It's not a hobby it's a part of my life.

I was not expecting to receive a certificate at this stage of the game. Perhaps it is because my teachers emphasize the old traditions where rank is not important. However, I am thrilled to have achieved this and touched beyond words by the wonderful praise Sifu and Sigong bestowed upon me along with the certificate.

I am so thankful to have such a wonderful teacher as Sifu Lewis. He knew when to be tough, when to be soft, and is always patient. He and Sigong Green continue to inspire and challenge me. Wing Chun is a journey not a destination. Here's to many more years on the path.

On Wednesday I will receive the black sash that accompanies the certificate and I have now earned the right to wear. In case anyone is interested...here it is:
